Many people have been diagnosed with ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. In fact, it seems like more and more people are diagnosed every year, which could mean a variety of different things. For instance, perhaps the emphasis on multi-tasking in society has created more cases of this disorder. Or, maybe, people are just being over diagnosed. Regardless of the underlying cause, what is for certain is too many children are placed on harsh medications in an effort to treat it.

These medications have many unpleasant side effects. That’s why there’s a growing interest in creating alternative or natural remedies for treating ADHD. After all, many kids with ADHD have learning disabilities and merely get frustrated at ineffective teaching methods. They aren’t any more hyperactive than any other kid. For those that truly have ADHD, some believe chiropractic care can be used to help.

Many kids with ADHD require near constant stimulation to stay happy. This is why they fidget in classrooms, get bored, easily, act up, and eventually get angry. They have too much energy and no place to focus it. One way to stop this impulse is to slow down brain activity a bit and restore a sense of stillness.

One way to accomplish this is to have the child undergo chiropractic treatments. This can be very relaxing and help to calm kids that are overactive. In fact, preliminary studies have shown kids who undergo these treatments regularly are less hyperactive and able to focus better after just a few weeks.

Of course, just this alone won’t do. Other modifications must be made to yield the best results. For instance, a healthy diet is vital. Removing foods with preservatives, dyes, additives, and sugars is essential. Choose organic foods to ensure kids aren’t being loaded up with pesticides and have kids allergy tested.

Mothers can even make modifications during pregnancy to help prevent ADHD, like reducing stress and avoiding alcohol and nicotine. Breastfeeding has also shown to be vital in encouraging healthy development of children and preventing developmental delays later down the road.

Though using chiropractic care is just one part of the equation, it can make a big difference in kids with ADHD and can go a long way toward preventing the need for medications. A thorough evaluation is important, as is regular care from a primary physician, but this can act as an excellent supplement to standard treatments.
