RheumatoideArthritisAPRheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack different parts of the body, namely joints, tissues, and organs. This can cause inflammation that can cause permanent damage. While treatments do exist for this condition (though no cure) it has recently been discovered that chiropractic treatments may be of assistance in relieving symptoms and improving quality of life in sufferers.

In a study that was published in the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research, a woman with rheumatoid arthritis saw a chiropractor about her bilateral polyarthralgia, which affected her fingers, toes, and knees. She suffered from considerable joint stiffness and had trouble bearing weight on her feet. She was taking medications but she was still in constant pain.

After numerous tests, it was found that she had subluxation in the spine along with hypolordosis, which is associated with reduced lung capacity. Reduced lung capacity is associated with reduce immunity. Subluxation causes irritation to the nerves of the spine, which can directly affect major organ systems and cause chronic inflammation. That’s why it was thought chiropractic treatments could be of assistance to people like this woman suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Repair the irritation to the nerves of the spine and you’ll fix the related inflammation issues that appear throughout the rest of the body.
